Last year was a highly significant one in the history of the Cook Islands. Not only did the country celebrate 50 years of self-government, it also made good progress towards its target of becoming almost fully reliant on renewable energy by 2020, with solar electricity generation schemes established in the northern group. However, the country also faced a considerable number of challenges, coming under attack on a number of fronts. Melody Cargill looks back at some of last year’s most significant events.
