Court briefs
Cook Islands High Court. 24050916

Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro presided over a number of driving related cases at the Criminal Court in Avarua yesterday.

A school student, who faces a charge of careless driving, has had her case adjourned to April 24.

This allows the defendant to wait for a response from the Ministry of Justice regarding her legal aid application.

In another careless driving case, Alder Glassie represented by defence counsel Norman George, requested for another adjournment.

This was to give time for the police to review the defendant’s case.

George said three weeks would be sufficient time for police to “thoroughly analyse” the case. The matter has been adjourned to April 17.

Also, Ngatokorua Tonorio charged for careless driving and excess blood alcohol had his case adjourned to April 17.

Defence lawyer George informed the Court that he had just received the disclosures yesterday.

------------

Defence lawyer Michelle Tangimama has requested photographs of a damaged vehicle from the prosecution in the case of Edward Goodman Katu.

Tangimama told the Court that she was unable to proceed with the case until damages are proven in the photographs. The photographs were provided with the disclosures.

Katu, who is charged for careless driving and excess blood alcohol, had his case adjourned to April 17.

Tangimama also requested an adjournment for another client, Edward Greig Parutu, until April 17.

The defence lawyer said she needed time to go through her client’s files.

Parutu is charged for careless driving causing injury, excess blood alcohol and possession of cannabis.

-------

John Wayne Gosselin, who is charged for being drunk in a public place, has been given time to look for a legal representative.

Gosselin is accused of being found drunk around the Raro Fried Chicken (RFC) in Avarua, on March 1.

The matter has been adjourned to April 17.
