Hawaiian Airlines has announced significant enhancements to its Rarotonga (RAR) service, designed to improve the travel experience for passengers and expand connectivity between the Cook Islands and the United States.

From Sunday, June 15, 2025, Hawaiian Airlines flight HA496, operating Sundays from Rarotonga to Honolulu (HNL), will shift its departure time from 11:35 PM to 1:05 PM, subject to government approval. This change will provide travellers with a more convenient daytime departure, allowing for smoother travel transitions and improved overall travel experience.

In a move that significantly expands travel opportunities, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines have established seamless fare connectivity between the Lower 48 states (L48) and Rarotonga. As of Friday, February 28, travellers can now book through fares connecting the Cook Islands to 85 gateways across the United States.

“We are excited about these enhancements to our Rarotonga service,” said Christian Mani, General Manager North America for Cook Islands Tourism.

“The daytime departure for HA496 will provide a more comfortable travel experience, while the expanded connectivity with Alaska Airlines opens up unprecedented access to the Cook Islands from across the United States.”

“The increased connectivity will undoubtedly boost tourism and provide greater opportunities for travelers to experience the unique beauty and culture of our islands.” said Noeline Mateariki, Director of Global Sales and Marketing.  Cook Islands Tourism Corporation
