Letter: Dear Tin Soldier – “Stand at Ease” “Stand Easy”

Yes, we did receive much advice from about covering the 105mm L5 Howitzer on the day the gun was put in place. This advice came from a number of well-meaning consultants – builders, painters and also old Australian Gunners.

This concern was so vocal, some RSA members even considered putting it back inside the RSA.  We must remember that the gun spent most of its 60-year NZ Army life in the open uncovered.  Three years uncovered in Vietnam’s monsoon weather and 20 years outside the Papakura RSA comes to mind.

Yes, the gun will be maintained.  It is currently coated with anti-rust material.  It will also be covered but not today.

Regards

The Gun Sergeant.

“Lest we forget”

“LEST WE FORGET” is the whole reason for ANZAC! If it’s a thing of the past, come down to the cenotaph at dawn on 25th of April.

Meitaki Ma’ata,
Grounded in reality.
