Letter: Police funding versus Tourism

How about looking at doubling the Police budget allocation and taking those funds out of Tourism. Tourism is a self-serving so-called major earning ministry with many taxpayer funded junkets around the world for so many “destination/digital marketing” lackeys.

The real credit for recent growth is thanks to Jetstar.

Police have always been treated as a poor relation with real recruitment problems. No one seems to care!

Police Minister Mark Brown, give Norman George a chance to get things back on track or step aside and appoint a minister who is in touch with the people.

If not Norman, bring in a real Commissioner from NZ or Australia who will set things right. Pay whatever it takes.

The bottom line is take some budget allocation from the glamour ministries and redirect it to the right social areas that are desperate for funds. There are many promising Cook Islands candidates for the Police to recruit and assist our problems on the roads. Offer realistic terms of employment and they will come.

Enough of self-promoting expos and tourism breakfast updates.
