A number of cases were heard before Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro on Thursday this week.

One of the new cases include a man who was granted name suppression and is facing two counts of indecent assault, and entering with intent.

He was remanded back into custody upon submission by the prosecutor due to the seriousness of the matter.

The accused also needs time to seek legal representation. He was also given time to find a place to stay following orders of the court.

The case was adjourned to February 13.

In a separate matter, Joseph Francis Vakatini, who is facing a charge of assault on female, also appeared in court for the first time on Thursday.

Details of his case were not read out in court, but he was remanded on bail with the conditions that he is to not offer violence, surrender his passport to the court, and not to make contact with the victim.

His case was adjourned to February 20.

The prosecutor requested for an adjournment to give him time to seek legal representation due to the seriousness of his case.

His case has been adjourned to February 13, and he was remanded on bail on the following conditions: He is not to make contact with the victim, he is to surrender his passport to court, and he is to not leave Rarotonga until his next appearance.
