The 2025 Cook Islands Triathlon season is underway with trainings on Thursdays from 5pm and Saturdays from 3pm at the Tri Site in Tikioki.

A good number of triathletes joined the first week of trainings and Triathlon president Roland Neururer said he was excited about the upcoming season, with plenty of exciting events planned.

The Cook Islands Triathlon Association has two exciting events coming up. “Firstly, we have ‘The Kids Aquathon’, this will be held from our Tri Site in Tikioki on Saturday 18th January 2025,” Neururer announced.

“A great event to see if you like triathlon with only two disciplines (swimming and running).”

There are three age categories – nine and under doing a 50-metre swim and a 1-kilometre run. Then there are 10 – 12 and 13 – 16 age categories. In these categories, athletes will be doing a 200m swim and a 4km run.

“So, get yourselves organised for some great prizes.”

The next event is the Annual BSP and KPMG Team Tri Competition to be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Held at the usual Tikioki Tri Site, teams are encouraged to come and participate in what is always a massively fun day.

The short course 200m swim, 8km bike and 2km run will be undertaken in teams of three, with each team completing the distance three times.

Registration is at 1pm with the race starting at 2pm sharp.

“Sports teams, banks, government departments, families, church groups, businesses and a number of youngsters always line up to compete and have fun with their friends and families,” Neururer said.

The Cook Islands Triathlon Association is a family orientated club which caters for all ages and abilities, so if you are thinking of trying something different this year then get in contact with Neururer via email fb1@edgewater.co.ck.

Neururer is always happy to assist people to make up a team so if you fancy giving the upcoming events a go but don’t yet have a team, feel free to call him on 55077.

“Bring a mat and some snacks, cheer on your friends and join in a wonderful fun afternoon,” he said.
