Global boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has gushed about a rising Aussie Cook Islander heavyweight after his stunning 57-second knockout.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of some of the biggest boxers in the world, has reserved special praise for an emerging Aussie heavyweight.

Hearn, who has promoted the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua, was in attendance on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night (Tuesday, Cook Islands time) for Jai Opetaia’s defence of his cruiserweight world title against David Nyika.

But it was a fight on the undercard that had people talking after Sydneysider, Cook Islander Teremoana Teremoana annihilated Osasu Otobo in a brutal 57-second knockout.

Teremoana, a 26-year-old, 198cm giant, entered the fight with a 100 per cent knockout record from his five previous professional bouts.

And he wasted little time continuing that record in a one-sided clash with German Otobo, a more experienced fighter with an 11-2-1 mark in his career.

After both fighters exchanged a few punches and they got tied up in a clinch, Teremoana then unleashed a barrage of heavy punches to the body and head of his opponent.

A right-left combination to Otobo’s head proved too much and the German crumpled to the canvas in a fight that lasted less than a minute in the opening round as the DAZN commentator yelled “I didn’t think it was going to happen that fast”.

“Very happy to get this done,” Teremoana said in the ring after barely breaking a sweat.

“Fifty-seven seconds, I thought it would go a bit longer but he wanted to fight.

“If you want to come to fight, I’m going to take it from you.

“I’m glad he wanted to engage and I got the job done.”

Teremoana has found it difficult to find opponents at times and it’s easy to see why as he is in outstanding shape and possesses enormous power in both hands.

While he is vastly inexperienced at this level, the 2023 Pacific Games gold medallist received some huge plaudits from Hearn in the ring.

“They say don’t get excited too early,” the Englishman said. “It’s time to get excited now.

“I’m telling you now, Australian boxing is on fire right now. This is the future right here in Teremoana.

“I really believe Australia has a great chance at a future heavyweight world champion.

“I want the Gold Coast, Brisbane, the whole country to get behind this guy.

“He’s a young prospect, he’s a great guy and he can really fight.

“This is a dangerous, dangerous man. Six fights, six knockouts, I think he’s going all the way.”

Undefeated Australian Skye Nicolson, the reigning featherweight world champion, was also in attendance at the fight.

She added her belief that Teremoana has all the skills to go far in the sport.

“The hype is real,” she said. “It’s impossible not to like Teremoana.

“He’s the most likeable character and he can fight.

“He can fight unbelievably well and he’s definitely living up to the hype.

“You can’t blink when he fights and I’m really excited for him.”
