Reeves’ business focuses on high-quality products and professional advice, catering to residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.
“I sell all products relating to tiling, waterproofing, self-levelling, and different types of adhesives for various surfaces,” Reeves told Cook Islands News.
These include specialised glues from Australia and America designed for use on materials like fiberglass, metal, concrete, cement boards, and plywood.
Reeves said the business thrives on offering tailored solutions to local challenges, such as dealing with older homes constructed from limestone.
“The concrete has a lot of problems because of the calcium in the local sand. When it gets damp, it turns alkaline, which eats the glue. That’s why sealing the concrete is critical before applying adhesive.”
He explained that some local builders and homeowners often use standard products from building centres, which aren’t always suitable for the island’s conditions.
“Within five years, the glue fails, and the tiles fall off. It happens that fast.”
Reeves emphasised that his approach is all about quality over cost, ensuring jobs are done correctly the first time.
“Cheap is expensive because you end up doing it again,” he said.
He recounted cases where poor waterproofing caused significant damage, including rotten plywood in bathrooms and failed shower installations.
Reeves supplies products to major hotels, including Pacific Resort, Manuia Beach Resort, and The Edgewater Resort.
He also collaborates with professionals familiar with his products from overseas.
“If you get a builder who’s worked in Australia or New Zealand, they know what they want and come straight to me,” Reeves said.
However, educating locals about the importance of using specialised products has been a challenge.
Reeves added that while some tilers embrace the information and advice he provides, others are less receptive.
Meanwhile, Reeves’ business also refurbishes old pools, resurface plaster pools, and repairs concrete water tanks.
Despite setbacks during the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for quality workmanship has helped his business bounce back.
“I give free quotes and advice,” Reeves said. “All people have to do is give me a call.”
