An inspiring collection of artwork by the Nukutere College inclusive education “superpower” art students is now on display.

Each piece reflects the individual creativity and perspective of the artist but also tells a story of imagination and the therapeutic power of art.

Members of the public, including visitors are welcome to visit the exhibition at the school from 8am to 3pm, and offer a silent auction bid.

With the assistance from teacher aides, these students have been working on their individual pieces throughout the year.

Local artist, designer and creative influencer Shane Andrew initiated the programme now in its second year and tutored the students.

He acknowledged the students’ wonderful achievement.

“The amount of work and effort they have put into during the year has been amazing, and today we can see how that relationship has bonded from last year.

“My passion for arts is really about giving our own people the opportunity to have a space to create, to build a relationship and tell stories through their art which is really important.”

Andrew also recognised the effort from the teacher aides which has “hugely expanded in this second year in building the creative process with their students and driving it; that is really shining through, it’s beautiful.”

The “superpower” inclusive education students who have produced stunning art pieces for the silent auction are: Moana Adams, Maeva-Rangi Brown, Dryden Dando, Isaac Khan, Miimetua Ngarangi, Elijah Nootai, Victor Samuel, Eden Tipokoroa, David Tua, Taurian Tutai, Tearii Tararoka Vaatau, and Isaia Vano.

Their collection of vibrant art pieces are on display until next Wednesday, November 27.

Bidding for each art piece starts from $50. A percentage of these funds will go to the students with a contribution towards the development of the programme and art supplies to continue the course in 2025.
