Mitiaro emerged as the dominant force in the Cook Islands Games (CIG) touch rugby finals, showcasing their talent across multiple divisions.

The island secured gold in the Women’s Open and U14 categories, along with a silver medal in the U18 grade. These victories saw Mitiaro collect the highest number of points, making them the standout team of the tournament.

In the Women’s Open, Mitiaro outplayed Mangaia to claim the top spot, with Mauke taking home the bronze. Mitiaro’s U14 team also delivered an impressive performance, winning gold, while Rarotonga secured both the silver and bronze.

While Mitiaro led the competition, other islands also had strong showings. Atiu claimed gold in the Men’s Open, followed by Manihiki with silver and Aitutaki with bronze. Aitutaki also excelled in the U18 division, earning the gold medal, while Mitiaro secured silver and Atiu took bronze.

The Masters category saw Rarotonga take gold, with Aitutaki earning silver and Manihiki taking bronze. Prime Minister Mark Brown was among the gold medallists for Rarotonga in the Masters Mix division.

Vou Williams, president of the Cook Islands Touch Association, praised everyone involved.

“Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the successful tournament. Gratitude to all athletes switching through codes despite touch being a very difficult game. Lastly, thank you to all referees, sponsors, and Jason and Aunty Daphne Brown for managing the tournament.”

Mitiaro’s victories, combined with strong performances from islands like Atiu, Aitutaki, and Rarotonga, highlighted the competitive spirit and camaraderie that made the Cook Islands Games a success.
