Letter: Deep sea riches

In response to the letter by “Eyes on Judas,” I noticed a lot of anger in the biblical themes used to express the danger of SBM (Seabed Mining). I would like to offer a different biblical perspective.

In the story of “David and Goliath”, David represents our country supporting SBM, while the larger nations and international NGOs like Greenpeace, who have far greater financial resources, play the role of Goliath. These powerful entities may try to intimidate or suppress us because of our beliefs and our efforts to support SBM. But let’s not forget that David defeated Goliath with just a ‘small stone’.

In our case, it’s the deep-sea rocks — those valuable minerals — that represent our ‘small stones’. These deep sea rocks could be the key to our national success, helping us overcome the ‘Goliaths’ that threaten our sovereignty and future.

Between the eyes of Goliath.
