According to police, more than six alcohol-related incidents were reported since Friday and five of those involved individuals who were said to be intoxicated and causing domestic trouble and disturbing or threatening others. One was a tourist giving concern to his wife in the early hours of Saturday.
Police reported a suspected crash at Matavera involving a damaged speed sign, and on Sunday night a resident reported a suspected drunk driver from the seawall towards town that was on the wrong side of the road without lights.
A crash was also reported to have occurred late Sunday night near Love Cafe at Karekare.
“Police were called at 10.55pm when a white mini truck crashed into a container near the roadside,” police said.
“The 34-year-old female driver was reported to be overtaking other vehicles at the time. She was admitted to hospital after being transported by ambulance and was subject to a blood specimen for analysis.”
A couple of tourists were reported to have been recovered from the lagoon at Avaavaroa on Saturday morning, swimming without a guide.
“Drunken behaviour was a prominent theme drawing the attention of Police throughout the weekend. More than half a dozen alcohol-related incidents were reported since Friday night,” police stated.
In the Pa Enua, a man was arrested Saturday night and detained by Rakahanga Police for 48 hours, following drunk behaviour that led to a domestic violence incident. He was charged with assault on a female.
