Prime Minister Mark Brown put a motion in Parliament requesting an adjournment to 1pm today (Tuesday, September 17) to allow MPs to attend the opening ceremony.
Brown said the Leader of Opposition Tina Browne was a longtime executive member of Oceania Netball and Cook Islands Netball, and she was to be a special guest.
He said Manihiki MP Akaiti Puna was to also deliver the government’s address at the tournament
“Members of the House, some of them have an interest in netball, would be interested in attending the tournament.”
Brown added that the last time the tournament was hosted in Rarotonga was in 2009, 14 years ago.
The motion was seconded by the Opposition leader Browne who said it was one of those rare occasions where she would support a motion put by the Prime Minister.
