Mokotupu, who is charged with reckless driving, appeared before Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday last week.
He told the court that his lawyer had been busy and had asked for the result of his medical examination.
Mokotupu claimed that his lawyer was Brian Mason, who wanted to know the results of his medical check.
He had suffered a concussion and a punch from the driver of the van that had crashed into him.
JP Taoro told the defendant that he would need the assistance of his lawyer to get his medical results and adjourned the matter to October 17 advising that his lawyer also be present in Court.

In other matters, defence lawyer Michelle Tangimama told the Court that she was still waiting for the video footage from police in regards to the charges against Marsela Kareroa.
Kareroa is charged with three counts of theft.
Police prosecutor, senior sergeant Tuaine Manavaroa said the video footage would be made available to defence lawyer Tangimama.

Tereapii Greig Mose, who is facing new charges of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place and three counts of contempt of court, is expected to enter a plea this week.
Defence lawyer Michelle Tangimama said Mose also faced a charge of burglary which he denied.
Tangimama said they were waiting for a hearing date to be confirmed.
Police prosecutor senior sergeant Tuaine Manavaroa said it was best to have pleas taken in the next session so all matters could be dealt with.
The case was adjourned to September 12.
