The completion of the roof replacement at Arorangi Intermediate School marks a pivotal moment for the school community.

This project, led by the Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC) in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE), addresses long-standing issues with the Intermediate School Block, including persistent roof leaks exacerbated by its coastal location.

Despite challenges such as material shortages and shipping delays, the project has been completed, much to the relief and excitement of the school’s students, staff, and community.

The CIIC building and maintenance team, led by Ripa Tauia is undertaking this work, which follows on from their successful completion of similar infrastructure projects including the roof replacement and remedial works to the Customs building and the Tupapa Health Clinic.

“The completion of this project is a testament to the resilience and perseverance of everyone involved,” said Elena Mataora, project manager. “We've worked hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Education and the school principal and staff to overcome significant issues. Now, we are thrilled to see the work underway knowing it will greatly benefit the students and teachers."

Sanjinita Sunish, MoE director finance, said: “Apii Arorangi roof replacement has been our most awaited project over the last two years.”

“We are really pleased with the completion of this project and the support provided by the CIIC to maintain fit for purpose educational facilities. We look forward to collaborating with CIIC team for future planned infrastructure projects.

“Understandably like any other infrastructure projects, necessary consideration was made with alternate arrangements in place so that the students’ education is not impacted.”

According to CIIC, for the Apii Arorangi community, this project is more than just a structural upgrade – it represents a renewed commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

“As the project progresses, it promises to enhance the overall educational experience, benefiting both current and future students,” it said.
