The Rarotonga netball premiership round two competition concluded last week, setting the stage for the knockout rounds starting today.

The games were intensely competitive as teams fought to secure top positions on the leaderboard, resulting in captivating matches that showcased the skill and determination of the players.

At the Tupapa Maraerenga Dome, the Tupapa team faced off against the Avatiu Dragonflies. From the beginning, Avatiu dominated the game, taking advantage of Tupapa’s lack of a specialist goal shooter.

The Dragonflies capitalised on every turnover, with Cook Islands veteran player Curly Taripo becoming a key target in the circle. Taripo achieved an impressive 100 per cent shooting percentage, making her a crucial asset to her team.

The defensive duo of Nicol Tiaore and Penny Crocombe proved to be a formidable barrier, forcing the young Tupapa shooters to take long shots.

Avatiu’s strong performance resulted in a decisive 48-26 victory at full time.

Over in Ngatangiia, table leaders Titikaveka were challenged by a resilient Arorangi side. Despite being distressed with only five registered players, Titikaveka managed to make several late registrations to field new players. This did not deter them; instead, they maintained their lead and kept Arorangi at bay.

The game was closely contested, but Titikaveka clung to their narrow lead, finishing with a 52-45 win.

The third game saw Takuvaine take on Ngatangiia in a one-sided affair. Takuvaine delivered a strong performance, capitalising on all centre passes and maintaining a robust defensive strategy.

Ngatangiia trailed throughout the game, struggling to narrow the point margin despite their efforts. Takuvaine’s consistent play led to a solid 59-42 victory, showcasing their dominance on the court.

The final round games were crucial in determining the table placements for the knockout stages. The standings are as follows: 1. Titikaveka, 2. Avatiu, 3. Tupapa, 4. Arorangi, 5. Takuvaine and 6. Ngatangiia.

As the knockout stages begin today, the excitement continues. Third-placed Tupapa will face fifth-placed Takuvaine, while fourth-placed Arorangi will play against sixth-placed Ngatangiia.

Titikaveka and Avatiu, having secured the top two spots, will proceed directly to the semi-finals, awaiting the winners from the knockout matches.
