In a careless driving causing injury case heard before Justice of the Peace John Whitta last week, defence lawyer Mark Short requested an adjournment.

Short cited the police disclosures, which stated that both victims in the case were consuming alcohol, as his reason for requesting the delay.

Justice of the Peace  Whitta said a plea would still be needed in the next adjournment as the fact that the others (victim) were driving did not mean she did or did not drive carelessly.

He said the accused still needed to answer to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to July.

Osea Tomonikau, who is charged for assault with intent to injure, has had his matter adjourned to June 27.

Defence lawyer Lavi Rokoika said she had not received any disclosures; the case has been hanging and the complainant had already withdrawn the charge.

However, police prosecutor Fairoa Tararo said disclosures will be provided and police will proceed with the charges.

The matter has been adjourned to June 27 for call over.
