Held every Monday over the course of eight weeks at the National Stadium in Nikao, this competition isn’t just about winning; it’s about coming together as a community to celebrate teamwork, fitness, and overall well-being.
Despite the stormy weather on Monday, 12 dynamic teams took to the field with passion. From familiar faces like Air New Zealand, Air Raro, and BCI to newcomers like Brew Crew and Poos & Wees, the competition was fierce and the energy infectious. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the players, who showcased their skills and determination with every pass and sprint.
Spectators were treated to some spectacular performances, with players like Ngamata from Team Air NZ and Victor from Team Brew Crew displaying their impressive footwork reminiscent of Benji Marshall, while Vern from Team BCI wowed the crowd with his daring 5-metre dives.
Cook Islands Touch President Vou Williams expressed his delight at the turnout and the passion on display.
Williams emphasised the importance of seeing both seasoned veterans and new players taking part in the competition, highlighting the inclusive nature of touch rugby in the Cook Islands.
“I look forward to witnessing more talent as the competition progresses,” he remarked, supporting the sentiments of many eager supporters.
Cook Islands Touch Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to the officials who ensured the smooth running of the games, both seasoned and new. Special recognition goes to young officials Mahana Sijp, Sam Tatuava, James Tarau, and Noel Mani, who bravely took up the whistle for the first time, exemplifying the spirit of dedication and community involvement.
As the competition unfolds over the coming weeks, there’s no doubt that the Business House Touch Competition will continue to be a highlight of the Cook Islands’ sporting calendar, bringing together people from all walks of life in the spirit of fun, friendship, and healthy competition
