Programme coordinator Harriet Tuara said the festival aims to provide girls aged six years and over with a structured environment to learn and enhance their rugby skills.
“Through age-appropriate coaching sessions, drills, and friendly matches, participants will build a strong foundation in rugby fundamentals,” said Tuara, who is also the Cook Islands Rugby Union vice president in charge of women’s rugby development.
“We believe that every girl deserves a safe and inclusive space to explore and thrive in the sport of rugby. Our festivals provide an environment where girls can express themselves, learn, and grow without fear of judgment or exclusion.”
Tuara said the festival also aims to empower girls.
“By fostering a love for rugby, we empower young girls to embrace physical activity, teamwork, and resilience. The festival encourages them to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and build confidence both on and off the field.”
The festival also serves as a platform for women who are new to coaching rugby.
Under the guidance of World Rugby accredited coaches and mentors, these aspiring coaches can practice their skills, gain practical experience, and contribute to the development of young players.
“We will also be extending our services by holding workshops for these coaches to become accredited under World Rugby Accreditation,” said Tuara.
“Next month, we will hold our first Coaching Course workshop for females to become Level 1 World Rugby Accredited Coaches.”
Tuara said She’s a Ruckstar celebrates diversity by bringing together girls from various backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.
“We believe that rugby is for everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.”
Tuara and her team aim to take the festival to every village each month with the hope and dream to extend it to one outer island before the end of this year.
