Cook Islands Meteorological Service staff were part of a successful climate information workshop held a week ago.

The workshop was facilitated by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) team Elise Chandler and Grant Beard, who assisted in upskilling and expanding staff capabilities aimed at assisting with future climate and marine issues.

Cook Islands Meteorological Service operational observer Bates Manea said the workshop was about enhancing climate information and knowledge services for resilience in the Cook Islands with the Meteorological Service.

Manea said it would help them in decision making when using climate information and strengthen awareness of climate threats and risk-reduction processes.

He said Cook Islands Meteorological Service has had a good history of co-operation and partnership with the Bureau of Meteorology over the years.

Referred to as UNEP CIS-Pac5, Manea added that the programme aimed to establish integrated climate and ocean information systems and multi-hazard early warning systems in Cook Islands.
