Letter: The victim ‘had a proper helmet on’

Myself (Chrissy) and my daughter were first on the scene at this accident as we were driving right behind the young girl and her friends and I witnessed the whole accident.

I was the first to tend to the young girl and the driver of the van along with another lady called Mareta who was driving past. I rang the police and ambulance immediately at 8:25am, ununiformed officers were on the scene by 8:33am and the ambulance shortly after.

I can confirm that Temu Okotai’s statement that she was wearing a “fake German hat” is not true.

She had a proper helmet on and it was light pink/purple which covered her whole head, that helmet I believe without a shadow of a doubt saved her life. Myself and Mareta spent a good half an hour next to her, trying to keep her calm and the driver also. I watched as they placed her on the stretcher and into the ambulance.

I’m not sure what you saw Temu?

Temu Okotai, you need to make a formal apology for this statement, which points the finger at this young girl and her family for letting her wear a fake German helmet which is a straight up lie!

This really upsets me.
