Two accused involved in a brawl outside Super Brown supermarket in Nikao on January 28 have both pleaded guilty.

Itiao Raututi Unuka, represented by lawyer Norman George, was convicted for fighting in a public place and given a suspended sentence of three months.

On January 28 this year, Unuka was talking to a boy when one of the boys from Rutaki drove his motorbike towards Unuka’s friend and crashed.

Unuka went to the area to separate them when a fight broke out, and he was hit and retaliated.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Fairoa Tararo said those who had previously appeared for the same case were convicted and given suspended sentences. He recommended the same for Unuka.

Defence counsel George said Unuka was a barber with no previous convictions and maintained a healthy lifestyle.

The lawyer argued that his client’s role in the matter was self-defence.

In another matter, Tamatoa Tetupuorongo Ariki Albert Henry Nicholas, facing charges of two counts of common assault and intent to injure, was represented by lawyer Mark Short.

Nicholas admitted to the charge of common assault related to the same matter. However, Short said another case was pending concerning the charge of assault with intent to injure.

The lawyer said he was still waiting for disclosures, and no plea was entered for that charge.

The matter has been adjourned to March for a call over before his sentencing on the common assault charge on April 2.
