Cook Islands Triathlon Association was overjoyed with the turnout for the 2024 BSP & KPMG Team Triathlon held on Saturday, which saw a large number of competitors, in hot and humid conditions.

Many teams took part in the short course team triathlon event which consisted of a 200 metre swim, an 8km cycle and a 2km run.

There were two separate categories, one for teams where each person did the whole event once and the other for teams who split the disciplines and had a dedicated swimmer, a cyclist and a runner.

Organiser said the atmosphere was fantastic with support being shouted for everyone all afternoon.

It was superb to see old timer Roland Neururer coming out of the water first, with youngster Maya on his heel, closely followed by the leading pack who quickly tagged their team mates for the cycle leg, or transitioned themselves on to their bikes.

Each team undertook the whole triathlon three times, the first teams to finish were in the individual disciplines, team Tri Hard with, Andrew, Jacob and Brook, in a time of 1:27:44.

The top slot on the all discipline went to team Three P’s in a Squad, who were made up of the junior team, Maya, Olivia and Edmund in a time of 1:37:38.

In total, there were 19 teams of three who worked hard in the hot sun, many enjoying the sport of triathlon for the first time.

One competitor undertook the entire race by herself and finished third overall.

CITAI would like to thank their event sponsors BSP, KPMG, and The Bond Store for their generous support, The Raina Family for the use of the Enua Manea Hall and grounds, and the marshals who gave their time to keep all the participants safe on our roads, you are very much appreciated thank you.

Upcoming major events in the CITAI calendar are, The Paradise Supplies Kid’s Triathlon on 24th February, The BSP Women’s Tri on 23rd March, Maori Auri Tinman on 13th April and the Air New Zealand Rarotonga Triathlon on 4th May 2024.

Cook Islands Triathlon Association meets every Thursday at 5pm and Saturday at 3pm at the Tikioki Tri site.

Everyone is encouraged to come and participate, as a team or individually.   There is always a very supportive and encouraging atmosphere and participation is encouraged.

Those who wish to race in a semi competitive environment will always find others with whom they can have a friendly competition, and those who prefer to participate in a more relaxed way are also very much encouraged to come along and join in. Cook Islands Triathlon Association
