Lawyer Mark Short, in the Criminal Court on Thursday, said he had only been given instructions before seeking an adjournment.
“I understand the family wants to get the matter over and done with.”
Short asked for interim name suppression on the grounds the defendant was young and that he needed time to notify all family members.
Short said there was also embarrassment to be considered.
Police asked for bail conditions and said name suppression was at the discretion of the court.
Justice of the Peace Vania Kenning said granted interim name suppression and ordered bail conditions including no violence, telling the defendant to surrender his passport and not to interfere with the victim or witnesses.
The matter was adjourned to February 29.
