Pikitua Heather from Puaikura was “so happy” to drop off her old whiteware products to the Murienua collection site yesterday afternoon.
“This is great, getting rid of all this old machine that has been sitting in the house for so many years, taking up room.
“We are so happy to rid of it and now we have more space,” said Heather.
The National Environment Service (NES) has partnered with the Cook Islands General Transport (CIGT) for the Titā ki te Titā kore Project, which is aimed at tackling the environmental and health risks posed by the improper disposal of whiteware, electronic waste (E-waste), and end-of-life vehicles on Rarotonga.
NES earlier said that this forward-looking initiative reflects the Cook Islands Government's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable waste management practices.
The collection programme will continue in Titikaveka, but the dates have yet to be confirmed.
