Hosted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), police chiefs or delegates from 19 Pacific countries gathered to discuss how to combat transnational crime and share the challenges they face.
The theme of the conference is Cybercrime: Countering Child Exploitation.
According to AFP the leaders re-committed to ensuring cyber safety was a priority for their policing agencies by signing the Cyber Safety Pasifika Declaration of Partnership.
Cyber Safety Pasifika is an AFP-led programme, for the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police that aims to increase cyber safety awareness and capabilities in Pacific communities.
On day two of the Conference, delegates heard from child exploitation experts about the ongoing threat in the ever evolving online space.
Speakers shared their knowledge on the challenges and opportunities to strengthen law enforcement responses to the threat of child exploitation across the globe and the Pacific.
The Commissioner and some of the participants also toured some of the AFP’s state of the art facilities located in Brisbane.
The AFP shared insights into how the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) coordinates research, resources, intelligence and information to support Australian law enforcement to remove children from harm and prosecute offenders.
The Chiefs also visited AFP training facility in Pinkenba, Queensland where they observed a public order management display by members of the Specialist Protective Command.
