Rarotonga’s young talent takes the field

The highly anticipated Rarotonga Football Season is set to kick off today at the Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) Complex.

The season opener promises to be an action-packed event, with various grassroots teams showcasing their skills. 

Commencing at 4:15 pm, the youth teams will participate in four different divisions: Under 12 Mix, Under 10 Mix, Under 8 Mix, and Under 6 Mix.

CIFA Field two will be divided into three playing grounds to accommodate simultaneous matches, ensuring a gripping spectacle for football enthusiasts in attendance. 

Ground one will feature an enthralling match between Tupapa Maraerenga FC and Matavera FC, with Teupoko Tuariki officiating as the referee.

At the same time, ground two will see Avatiu FC go head-to-head with Nikao Sokattak, under the watchful eye of referee Penina Katuke. Lastly, Puaikura and Titikaveka will grace ground three, with Rakesh Varman maintaining order as the designated referee. 

The excitement continues on CIFA Field one where nine distinct grounds will host football matches for the different age groups.

Grounds one, two and three are dedicated to Under 10 Mix matches: Tupapa vs Matavera (refereed by George George), Avatiu vs Nikao (officiated by Tuakeu Paerau), and Puaikura vs Titikaveka (with Robert Savage Snr overseeing proceedings). 

Likewise, grounds four, five and six cater to the Under 8 Mix teams: Tupapa vs Matavera (helmed by Matilda Auua), Avatiu vs Nikao (moderated by Mata Iroa), and Puaikura vs Titikaveka (mediated by Jaceleine Pukerua). 

Finally, grounds seven, eight and nine host the youngest competitors in the season, the Under 6 Mix division with matches being Tupapa vs Matavera (Robert Savage Jnr officiating), Avatiu vs Nikao (managed by Teariki Piri), and Puaikura vs Titikaveka (supervised by Ioane Brogan). 

The excitement doesn't stop there - at 5:00 pm sharp, spectators can look forward to the first game of the Round Cup's Under 18 Men division on CIFA Field One.

The highly anticipated match between Tupapa Maraerenga FC and Matavera FC will be officiated by John Pareanga as the referee, George George as Assistant Referee 1, Robert Savage as Assistant Referee 2 and Robert Savage Snr taking the role of 4th Official.
