The national women’s team won both their games however the Cook Islands men’s side is yet to secure a win.
In the open women’s competition on Wednesday, Cook Islands defeated NZ Niue 13-8 while in the open men’s the visitors won 14-7.
The Cook Islands women’s team consisted of three youth development players – Marlee Aurupa, Nanny Aurupa (Mighty Arrow Darts Club) and Tangi Tangapiri (Mai’i Darts Club).
Niue men’s team brought over their “rocket” Cody Harris, a former Aotearoa New Zealand darts champion and representative in the World Darts Championships opens and masters categories. Harris has won national tournaments in New Zealand in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The national team features Rarotonga’s top 13 players who were selected based on statistics collected this year.
Last Saturday, the Cook Islands Youth development squad debuted against the Niue team. The presence of Harris boosted the morale of the youth development squad.
Darts Cook Islands president Kopurei Anguna reiterated the importance of giving exposure to young players in preparation for future international events.
The final game of the series will be played tonight at the Cook Islands Game Fishing Club in Tupapa, starting at 6pm.
