Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said the crash involved three motorbikes. One driver was taken to hospital.
Pitt said they had apparently slipped on the road at YWAM, which is a dangerous, deceptive bend.
He added that spilt fuel on the road caused the slip.
In another incident, a 50-year-old man is awaiting sentencing for drunk driving.
He was admitted to hospital with injuries following a motorbike crash in Tupapa early Friday.
Pitt said that blood analysis has been sought. The man was not wearing a helmet.
Police said it was an alcohol-related incident, called in shortly after midnight.
Earlier this month, Police said they anticipated an increase in motor vehicle crashes over at least the next two months.
Police earlier said that motor vehicle crashes were up 35 per cent on last year and for the first five months of 2023, there were 89 reported crashes, compared to 66 for the same period last year.
Last year’s trend followed an increase from May, through June and July but 2023 began with a higher monthly figure than the previous five years.
The incidents are projected to increase through the year as traffic volume increases, along with higher visitor numbers.
