Apii Nikao has received four smart mobile television systems which will allow their students to engage in learning in the different spaces throughout the school.

Principal of Apii Nikao, Michael Mokai said “in our Junior School, they have become essential tools as we are using online video’s and tutorials to support our Structure Literacy Programme, where we are seeing fantastic progress from our tamariki.”

Mokai said, they are used primarily as screens to project a variety of web-based educational videos and interactive learning tools.

Apii Nikao was designed with flexible learning spaces, the mobile TVs systems can be set up in the classroom, breakout rooms, the hall, theatre room and even on the porch areas.

The schools Parents & Teachers Association (PTA) purchased the 3x 50’ TVs and 1x 65’ – all on portable trolleys.

Chairman of the PTA George Williamson said plans to purchase the TVs has been in the pipeline for some time.

With a budget for under $7000 the TV’s were bought using funds from the Apii Nikao fundraiser which was held last year.

“We acknowledge that times have changed and we have to keep up with the modern technology of learning.

“We also thank our  wonderful parents and guardians for their great effort and support for the school,” said Williamson.

This afternoon at 5pm a special kaikai will be held at the school hall to acknowledge the approximately 220 students who performed at the Rarotonga Schools Culture Festival.

“We are very proud of our all tamariki who took part and it was wonderful to see tamariki right from ECE to Year 8 get the opportunity to engage and learn more about the Cook Island Culture and also have the fantastic opportunity to perform in front of such a large crowd at the National Auditorium,” said Mokai.

The special kaikai today is to recognise the “fantastic performances” by all the students and to say “thank you”.
