Letter: ICI confirms $90,000 spent on Apii Takitumu ‘Guardrail Fence’

The stupid answers and justifications by various bureaucrats with regards to the ridiculous guardrail at Takitumu School, is in itself an insult to the public and the taxpayer.

(Regrettably, the new boss of ICI inherited this mess). Road safety was the very dubious original justification.

No one could show how man, if any, motor vehicle accidents actually occurred along that stretch of road. Furthermore, to suggest that shade sails, way over on the other side of the oval, would somehow replace the wonderful shade and safety of those Toa trees is just as insulting.

Now the Apii Takitumu are very limited in where they can hold their outside classes, whereas before they had wonderful freedom and safety.

And finally to reveal that some $90,000 has been spent on that project, is only part of the cost. Would someone reveal how much the removal of those icons cost?

I bet the total cost of removal of the trees, and then the installation of the wonderful new eyesore is well in excess of $100,000, and not a single tree replanting in sight, as was also promised. If that does eventually happen, then maybe the children of the current pupils will have some shade. Just another example of bureaucracy making stupid decisions, and not backing down in the face of logical public reasoning. (the sludge issue will be another example).

Yep, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig!
