Today (Friday, March 24) I purchased frozen pizza from a major food outlet. Best by date 22/12/22! Still ok to eat but nevertheless well past best by date. Smaller stores are subject to overzealous inspections and ordered to remove items as innocent as snack food from sale within 7 days.
Does one rule apply to all? I don’t think so. Check out the ‘clearance’ area at CITC for one. Please whoever is the current director get your inspectors out there and apply the rules fairly. It seems that all they do these days is check fuel prices and have cups of tea at the office. Common sense needs to prevail as most non-dairy/perishable items are fine to sell for at least six months from ‘best by date’.
Let’s hear from you Ms Director.
