A blaze in Arorangi late on Sunday night is being treated as suspicious. Emergency services were called to the Back Road property just after 11pm.

Airport Rescue Fire sent a truck with three officers and were assisted by two trucks and eight officers from Puaikura Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Airport Rescue Fire chief officer Breamnt Kea said his crew was back at the station about 12.47am on Monday but did not have further details.

Puaikura Volunteer Fire Brigade chief officer Jason Moorfield said it appeared the blaze started in the bedroom of a house.

His crews helped dampen down hotspots.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said no one was home at the property at the time of the blaze and police were investigating the matter.
