Two criminal matters were brought before Justice of the Peace Georgina Williams at the High Court yesterday.

Facing an assault on a female charge, Aue Inangaro Tamariki Vakatini was ordered to surrender his passport by 9am today.

This comes after defence lawyer Mark Short requested for an adjournment as he was yet to receive disclosures.

Vakatini was further ordered not to purchase or consume alcohol and not to offer violence.

A police safety order which was issued against him on Monday expires on Saturday and JP Williams ordered Vakatini to abide by it. The matter has been adjourned to February 16.

In another matter yesterday, Tereanu Williams Teava appeared on charge for contempt of court.

On December 30, 2022 Teava failed to appear at the Police Station in Avarua as per his court orders, resulting in a contempt. Williams said he would seek a legal representative. The matter was adjourned to February 2.
