Rejoicing in the Gospel

Sylvana Taoro-Puia, Numangatini Tangi Ariki, Tangi Taoro and Tutai Rairi Tereapii celebrate Tae’anga Evangelia or Gospel Day at Raemaru Park in Arorangi yesterday.

Gospel songs and cultural items depicting the arrival of Christianity celebrated Tae’anga Evangelia which was hosted by the Arorangi Cook Islands Christian Church (CICC).

Arorangi CICC pastor Reverend Tinirau Soatini and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Tapaitau addressed the crowd.

The churches on Rarotonga gathered together in their respective Vaka of Takitumu, Te Au O Tonga and Puaikura to mark the event with drama portrayal based on the theme of the arrival of the Gospel to their district.

Gospel Day is a public holiday in the Cook Islands on October 26th each year. The day celebrates the arrival of Christianity to the Cook Islands on October 26, 1821.
