Clean sweep in masters doubles tennis

Team Pukapuka made a clean sweep in the 2022 Cook Islands Games masters men’s doubles tennis competition on Tuesday.

The event held at the National Tennis Courts in Nikao concluded on Tuesday with the masters events.

In the men’s doubles masters, Pukapuka won gold, silver and bronze medals.

Ripanau Tauia and Pastor Clerk Turua won the gold medal and Kirianu Nio and Kanute Ritawa settled for silver. The bronze medal went to Parker Daniel and Tingika Elikana while Ned Howard and Russel Thomas of Rakahanga finished in fourth place.

In the masters women doubles, Rarotonga’s Selina Napa and Nadine Newnham won gold after beating Tuainekore Rota and Tanya Michelle Savage of Aitutaki.

Mauke’s Tuaine Turua and Ake Unuka managed bronze medal.

Tennis Cook Islands executives thanked the teams and players for “the amazing eight days of tennis!”

“A total of 198 players joined and just over 190 tennis matches were played. Impressive statistics for tennis and for Cook Islands Games 2022.

“Tennis Cook Islands would like to congratulate all the winners and every single person who made this event a success. Island managers you rock!

“We look forward to seeing you all in 2024!”
