The 2022 Cook Islands Games open division tennis events concluded on Saturday at the National Tennis Court in Nikao.

In the open mixed doubles, Rarotonga’s Brett Baudinet and Davina Hosking-Ashford won gold medal followed by Atiu’s Maka Maui and Lillian Maui and Aitutaki’s Manolito Tekopua and Maine Puarangi Tekopua who settled for silver and bronze medals respectively.

Baudinet also won the open men’s singles gold medal beating Maka Maui in the final. Rakahanga’s Hererahi Teinakirahi claimed bronze medal.

In the open women’s singles, the gold medal went to Atiu’s Lillian Maui while Norah Browne of Rakahanga settled for silver medal. Rarotonga’s Katee Timeri Wearing managed bronze medal.

In the open men’s doubles event, youngsters Arikitoa Allsworth and Maka Maui of Atiu won gold beating the 2020 gold medal winners, father-son pair of Brian and Brett Baudinet. Rakahanga’s Tuaine Kemo Teariki and Hererahi Teinakirahi managed bronze medal.

In the open women’s doubles, Atiu’s Hinano Ellingham and Lillian Maui won gold while Tayla Beddoes and Moana Une of Mauke settled for silver and bronze medal went to Norah Browne and Jane Ioaba of Rakahanga.

The tennis events continue today with masters men’s and women’s competitions at the National Tennis Centre in Nikao.
