Father and son Andrew Logan and Darius Allsworth swam head to head in the Cook Islands Games boiler swim on Tuesday.

Allsworth, who swam for Mitiaro, came second in the race with a time of 11 minutes and 48 seconds behind Olympian Wesley Roberts.

Logan, who swam for Atiu, finished the race with a time of 16 minutes and 23 seconds.

Logan said it was good to see the young boys competing “and paving the way for the future”.

“It’s always good to swim with the boy, we started off at the same place four years ago but I’m in the dust now.”

Allsworth, who was also the flag bearer for Mitiaro, said swimmers had to contend with big waves.

“It was a good competition, good to see Wesley up the front, I was trying to chase him down.”

Allsworth said he enjoyed body surfing some of the waves back to shore.
