The Level 3 students have put in five weeks of hard work into composing their dance creations which will be assessed for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and is worth eight credits.
Tokorima Tangatakino has created a contemporary hip hop dance for her performance tonight. She was going through final rehearsals yesterday.
“I’m feeling scared about tomorrow (tonight) and nervous at the same time, but I’m hoping people will come along to watch our show.”
The students are required to compose an item telling their own story through dance.
Level 3 student Heinarii Tauira is looking forward to tonight’s show although she was feeling a bit apprehensive about her own dance composition.
The dance theme is focused on “Who we are” and “Where we belong”. Each individual student composes and produces a dance performance about themselves.
“I’m nervous, I think we all are. Everyone has put in so much of their hard work to show their story so there will be exciting performances for everyone to see,” said Tauira.
The Turangavaevae Performing Arts is led by Tereora’s senior dance teacher Tupa Tupa.
Tonight’s dance show starting at 6.30pm will feature 18 performances. Public can witness the event for the very affordable price of $5 (entry fee) while for primary school aged children, entry is free.
