A small delegation from Pukapuka-Nassau visiting Rarotonga this week received a drone kit from Marae Moana – Cook Islands Marine Park.

The drone will be used to capture the beauty of the Cook Islands groups’ most isolated and westerly islands as well as used as training toolkit for students there.

Prime Minister Mark Brown on behalf of Marae Moana handed over the drone kit to Kolee Tinga, Pouser Rikini and Talawili Rereau on Wednesday.

Photographer Tinga’s stunning images of his home island Pukapuka have been a great source in providing key information to government agencies, especially to the Marae Moana – Cook Islands Marine Park organisation.

With developments happening around our ocean here at home, Prime Minister Brown said this was a good time to start sharing information as well as build our children’s capacity.

The equipment was supported through Seacology to increase communications and awareness about Marae Moana, and is an opportunity to see more of the landscape and natural features of Pukapuka-Nassau.
