Covid-19 daily case numbers remain sporadic in the Pa Enua (outer Islands), with the island councils confident they have contingency plans in place should the pandemic rear its head.

Figures provided by Te Marae Ora show that on Wednesday, there were nine new cases in Rarotonga, two new cases in Aitutaki, 10 in Atiu and seven in Mauke.

Mauke island council executive officer Royston Jones said the response from TMO had been excellent.

“We’ve got all of our village teams on the same page, and we’re ready to ramp up our response,” Jones said.

“At the moment, all of our cases have been mild to moderate, which means they can isolate at home, but we have contingencies in place should severe cases occur.”

Jones said TMO and the community had stepped up its response, and those isolating had been following the rules.

“Each village has got their team working very well,” he said.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 4779 cases in Rarotonga, 572 cases in Aitutaki, 11 in Mauke, three in Penrhyn, and one in Mitiaro.

There are 106 active cases in the Cook Islands.
