An online fundraiser launched for Rarotonga’s last two remaining horses has raised almost three thousand dollars.

The fundraiser was set up by local horse lover Brynn Acheson-Nooroa who is aiming to raise six thousand dollars before the end of May.

Speaking to Cook Islands News, Acheson-Nooroa said: “It’s been awesome. I’m really delighted by the response we’ve had…there are lots of animal lovers out there.

“I’ve also had a local person approach me about helping to build the shelter (for the horses), so hopefully that will happen in the next week.  

“There is also a tourist coming over who is a builder and has offered to donate one day of his time to help out as well,” she said.

According to Acheson-Nooroa who rescued the horses, all funds raised will be used for buying general and medical supplies and building a livestock shelter.

But the main goal is to give the horses more comfort while taking care of their health and providing them with care throughout their retirement.

“I want to say thank you to each and every person who has donated through the Givealittle page,” she said.

“There is an option online to thank everyone, which I will be doing individually.”
