The fish was weighed by the Executive Officer (EO) of Penrhyn, Puna Vano who was impressed with the size of the fish and the good portions of fillets, “enough fish for about a month”.
Vano said the fisherman had hooked a larger sized wrasse which unfortunately had snapped the fishing line.
Faira filleted the fish and was happy with his catch which would help feed his family.
Wrasses are found throughout the world in tropical and temperate seas and are often abundant among coral reefs.
The Napolean wrasse, also known as the humphead wrasse, features broad lips, strong teeth, vibrant colours, and the pronounced hump on its forehead.
Not only the largest of the wrasse species, it is also one of the largest of the reef fish.
