A motorist is due in court on Thursday after refusing to give a statement and undergo an alcohol screening test following a crash on Rarotonga over the weekend.

The incident was reported in the Takuvaine area about 12 noon on Saturday.

Police reported a car had run into a road side metal pole and hedging along the Back Rd.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said the motorist will likely appear in court on Thursday charged with refusing an EBA test and careless driving.     

“This will need confirmation once the file is completed for prosecution.”

Meanwhile, a 76-year-old man who fell of his motorcycle received a gash on the forehead but was well enough to be discharged from Rarotonga Hospital by the late afternoon on Saturday.   

The incident happened early afternoon on the main road of upper Tupapa.

Police were informed that the man’s medical condition brought on a fainting spell and he had lost control of the bike.
