Police have responded to three complaints over the weekend concerning breach of the Covid-19 law on quarantine.

One person was arrested on Friday and taken to Arorangi Prison following a complaint in Arorangi. The person entered a house cordoned off due to Covid-19.

Another incident reported at Ngatangiia will be followed up by police upon the subject’s completion of isolation, said police spokesperson Trevor Pitt.

The third complaint was filed on Saturday at Nikao.

said the other two cases involved “people from isolation going out to shops”.

“So far, just the one arrest on a charge of breaching the order,” Pitt said.

Penalties for any breach of quarantine/isolation carries a maximum of 12 months imprisonment or a $10,000 fine.

Meanwhile the weekend was peppered with drunken behaviour and noisy gatherings.

There was one crash reported on Saturday, involving a tourist, who has admitted fault by turning into the path of a motorbike.

There were two complaints of menacing dogs received from the Avaavaroa area and Arorangi.

“A tourist from New Zealand was harassed by four dogs and was bitten (in Arorangi),” Pitt said.
