Defence lawyer Mark Short said he had not received any information in relation to the charges and asked for disclosure.
He asked for the matter to be adjourned.
The police prosecutor said disclosure could be provided soon while it had been reported Tutakiao had refused medication while he was at large.
Health authorities recommended he be remanded in custody.
Short asked for more time to read correspondence from Te Marae Ora Ministry of Health.
The matter was then adjourned to February 10.
