The end of the year tournament held at the Ngatangiia Field in Muri featured five primary schools from around the island.
In the U13 girl’s division, Avarua Primary School finished on top after an impressive run in the preliminary rounds and the knockouts.
After some close matches against Arorangi and Nukutere, Avarua eventually won the final beating Avarua II 20-0.
In the U13 boy’s competition, Nukutere College emerged champions after strong performances throughout the tournament.
The Nukutere boys were in great form thrashing all opposition and with no tries being scored against them! Nukutere thumped Titikaveka 30-0 in the final.
The tournament also featured the first-ever Ability Rippa Rugby Day programme.
Just under 20 children living with disabilities took part in this programme run by the Cook Islands Rugby Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC).
Cook Islands Rugby Union’s Ben Koteka thanked all the schools, players, and management who turned up from the early morning 9am Ability Sports Day session to the midday U13 Schools Quick 7s Tournament.
Koteka said thanked the volunteers who made it happen including their partners; NZ Foreign Affairs & Trade, NZ Rugby Union, Vodafone, Ministry of Education, CISNOC, CIBS and the Ngatangiia Sports Association – Kaka Ama and his hardworking group of helpers who set up the fantastic venue.
