Getting into the festive spirit

A sparkling Christmas tree with hanging stars and beautifully wrapped presents greet you when you enter the Excil Shipping Office.

The company in collaboration with the Tropical Christmas 2021 Season Committee yesterday launched start of the festive season.

Excil Shipping’s manager Maru Apera says this year they will have a new vibe with Mr and Mrs Santa Claus – Ngametua Mamanu and his wife Mānia Clarke-Mamanu – to promote the activities of the Tropical Christmas season and to spread cheer in the community.

Mr and Mrs Santa will visit the Punanga Nui Market on the first three Saturdays before Christmas Day to share out lollies, joy and merriment.

The Santa parade will be held on Thursday, December 16 from the St Joseph’s Catholic Church starting at 4pm and ending at the CITC Main Store Avarua car park. There will be food vendors and activities for the kids on the day.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas day, there will be many other activities and child friendly events.

The Tropical Christmas in Raro is made up of a committee of several Rarotonga merchants who in 2013 came together to find a way to put the “Island Spirit” back into Christmas, bring joy to the faces of the children and light up the island for Christmas.

The Christmas Club organises activities and events throughout December to make Christmas a fun and happy time for all children.

This is a nonprofit group and relies on the generous support and donation from community businesses and generous sponsors.

If you would like to be part of the Santa Parade or if you would like your business to be part of the Tropical Christmas sponsors, please visit their Facebook page.

The tropical Christmas corporate partners are: CIPS, IDCK, Toa Gas, Island Craft, BCI, Excil Shipping, CITC Avarua, BSP, Fave Design, Computer Man, Vonnias. The community partners are Mongoose and Kinura Tapunui.
