Well-honed shots and raw talents are set to collide at the Cook Islands Squash Nationals next week.

The event is scheduled to be held from October 27 to 29 at the Nikao multi sports complex.

The three-day tournament is all part of the local squash committee’s mission to grow the sport through running regular tournaments, with several beginner and freshman tournaments recently seeing great participation.

The upcoming nationals is an opportunity for players to step up their game and earn a club grade, or push the limits of their current squash skills.

The tournament also replaces this year’s Squash Opens tournament that was due to be held this month and normally attracts up to 100 international squash players.

With travel and border uncertainty, plus a steadily growing local membership base – Cook Islands Squash Nationals was organised to cater for what will likely be a “locals only” tournament, with room to adapt to include international visitors if safe travel was re-established.

Registrations for the Cook Islands Squash Nationals are now open – write to squashcookislands@gmail.com to receive a registration and order T-shirts.

And to get in some training beforehand, head to the squash courts in Nikao and join the regular weekly jammers or book a court for a time that suits for training.

Otherwise, supporters and spectators are welcome to check out the tournament where action is guaranteed.
